Adult autism 2 is committed to serving members of the adult autism community. We offer articles, videos, online educational courses, books, and speaking engagements. Our motivation is to eliminate some of the myths and stereotypes surrounding autism through exposure to factual information related to the disorder. In addition, it is our desire to facilitate a global environment that is inclusive and supportive of autistic adults. With the maturation of the adult autism community comes new challenges in the areas of employment, housing, health care, and relationships. Establishing these crucial pillars of independence is extremely vital for adults on the spectrum going forward. Expanded opportunity is an integral part of life for autistic adults as the world becomes more tolerant and understanding.
It is important to not simply celebrate autistics for their amazing abilities and gifts, but also recognize the depth of diversity they offer the human spectrum. The next major development in the quest for true inclusion for autistic adults will be the emergence of a global identity. To date, autistics have been defined by others in society as related to their capabilities, deficits, and inherent shortcomings. The time has come for this group to create their own narrative and choose self-reliance over dependency and weakness. The argument could be made that there are just too many obstacles for autistics to overcome before declaring independence. However, there is a degree of exuberance within the autism community as the winds of change are getting stronger. Opportunities once considered impossible are opening for autistics worldwide. Adult autism2 is here every step of the way to provide encouragement, guidance, and support.
